It’s award season and whilst everybody is still reeling from the Oscars, RDS Global will be attending an equally prestigious — if a little more local — event later this evening, in the form of the Derby College Group Academy Awards.
What’s more, we’re absolutely delighted to be able to say we’re nominated for not one but two awards this year!
The ceremony will be held at Derby’s Roundhouse, and sees businesses across the region come together in recognition of the fantastic work being done by employers to positively impact local communities.
Employment & Skills Board of the Year is awarded to businesses that have demonstrated exceptional efforts to help bridge the gap between education and employment; enabling students to make that transition into work by encouraging them to develop the necessary skills and confidence.
Meanwhile, Employer Academy of the Year is awarded to employers working with students as part of Derby College’s innovative Employer Academy programme. At the start of the month, our latest set of academy students completed their 17-week placement with RDS.
Alfie, Yusuf, Qasim, Dylan and Brandon started their placement earlier in the academic year, and have all gone on to resume their studies with the added experience that allows them to focus on specific areas they may wish to pursue in their future careers paths.
Speaking about the awards, RDS Global’s Phil Harvey said: “We’re huge believers in giving young people the right tools, training and knowledge for success in future employment. Being recognised for our efforts and to be nominated for two awards is a tremendous feeling.
“We’re honoured to be shortlisted alongside other businesses who have all given so much back to the community. We wish everyone who was nominated and shortlisted across each category the best of luck for this evening.”
In addition to being nominated, RDS will also be sponsoring the category for Roundhouse Employer of the Year — which celebrates businesses who have shown their support and benefitted communities by employing locally.
“As a Derby-based business, we’ve always prided ourselves on employing and nurturing local talent,” continues Phil. “It’s one of the most important things a business can do to help communities thrive, so we’re very pleased to be sponsoring this award tonight. We look forward to seeing you all there on the night.”
